Crowd Dynamics Workshop (2 Days)

Course Director: Prof. Dr. G. Keith Still FIMA

Who Should Attend:

For those who design for, plan or manage the movement of people in sport, entertainment, shopping, transport or similar environments. This event will benefit site or venue operational managers, stewarding and security organisations, police officers with crowd management responsibilities, architects of environments used by large numbers of people and local authority officers with licensing, planning, building control or leisure management responsibilities.

Aims:

To understand how individuals and crowds react to and behave in available space in places of public assembly and to explore the safety implications for designing and managing such spaces using appropriate modelling tools.

Objectives:

By the end of the workshop delegates will:

  • Understand crowd phases (Ingress, circulation and egress) and influences (design, information and management) to a range of places of public assembly;
  • Be able to apply risk assessment techniques to crowd dynamics and crowd management
  • Have explored the potential benefits of using appropriate crowd simulation tools in designing, planning and managing crowded spaces;
  • Be able to create models summarising crowd flow to help with planning and crowd management activities for ingress, circulation and egress

The workshops include direct applications to your individual case studies and delegates are encouraged to bring along maps, plans, diagrams, risk analysis etc. to work through with the Course Directors.
