Spatial HEuristics - Purpose, Actions, Routes, Design - Agent Based Simulation Suite.
Modelling the complex and built environment requires a basic understanding of the behaviours of crowds in places of public assembly. We define a methodology that explores the relationship between the influences (Design, Information and Management), the Behaviours (Ingress, Circulation, Egress) and the modes (Normal and Emergency behaviour) of the crowd in the complex and built environment.
Heuristic analysis is an expert based analysis that determines the susceptibility of a system towards particular threat/risk using various decision rules or weighing methods.

The original modelling system (VEgAS - Virtual Egress Analysis Simulation) used a Virtual Reality Platform (SuperScape). The rules in the system are define in my PhD Thesis (click here for chapter link).
Project that used the Shepard system include the Jamarat Bridge and the Holy Mosque (Al-Haram) both are part of the annual pilgrimage to Makkah.

We are developing courses that teach the underlying principles of programming and modelling crowd behaviour using the Shepard framework. Click here for further information.
